A sofa bed has to be a good sofa first
Most sleeper sofas fail at the thing you do every day. The folding mechanism steals seat depth, so the cushions sit shallow and hard over a steel frame. You feel it within a week. A sofa that hosts guests four nights a year should still be comfortable the other three hundred and sixty-one.
So we start with the sofa, then judge the bed. Seat depth of twenty-one inches or more usually survives the mechanism. A queen sleeper needs roughly ninety inches of clear floor from the back frame when it opens. Measure that before you fall in love with anything.
The mattress matters more than the label on it. Innerspring pads under four inches will telegraph every bar. Gel memory foam at four and a half to five inches is the quiet sweet spot for most rooms.
